David Robinson, the Harbourmaster at Christmas Island, contacted ROV Innovations to complete inspections of their deep water moorings at Flying Fish Cove and the Smith Point refuelling facility. Working closely with commercial divers and engineers from Undersea Construction Ltd, we were able to inspect the deep water anchorages for the vessel moorings that were in 265m and 550m of water just off the Christmas Island coast. With the commercial divers inspecting the top mooring components and horizontal spans, the ROV concentrated on penetrating the deeper water to inspect the chains, wires, shackles, dumpers, and anchors of the moorings themselves. With additional modules on the Seamor ROV such as a Cygnus ultrasonic thickness probe, and Tritech underwater positioning system, additional information on the underwater assets was available including actual position of the anchor allowing the engineers to determine if the system had moved from its first position. Thanks to David Robinson and Neil McNeil at Christmas Island for their great support and hospitality, as well as Wayne and Dave from Undersea Constructions Ltd.
